Cricket News: BCCI to introduce cooling-off period for retired players

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is working on a protocol for retired Indian players who want to play in various T20 tournaments. There is currently no policy in existence for the same, and the BCCI is eager to implement one.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, retired Indian players will have to go through a cooling down period before joining a T20 league. The length of the cooling period will be decided by the BCCI at its Apex Council meeting on July 7.

The stated decision comes after several Indian players announced their retirement and then joined a T20 competition a week later.

Former players were given large sums of money to participate in T20 tournaments, and the BCCI believed that this could present an issue in the future. With the emergence of T20 leagues around the world, the BCCI may find itself in a pickle if retired players are tempted into the league immediately after retiring.

Another subject on the agenda for the BCCI meeting is the participation of both the men's and women's teams in the 2018 Asian Games. The BCCI had already stated that it would send both the men's B squad and the women's team to the competition.

The governing board is also considering adjustments to the impact player rule for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Previously, the competition's impact player regulation differed from that of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The BCCI, on the other hand, wants to keep the regulations consistent for both the IPL and the local tournament, where there are no over restrictions.

Meanwhile, the World Cup 2023, will also see some major retirements from the World of Cricket and it's possible that the Heart and Soul of Indian Cricket Virat and Rohit might be playing their last ODI World Cup.
