Amit Panghal created history as he became the first Indian boxer to enter the summit clash of the men's World Championships, defeating Kazakhstan's boxer by split decision (3-2) in the semi-final of the flyweight, 48kg-52kg, division in Russia. Having already secured a berth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Amit Panghal would want to win gold in the World Boxing Championships, something no Indian has ever done before. In the finals, Panghal will be up against the Rio Olympic champion in 52kg category, Uzbekistan's Shakhobidin Zoirov, who defeated France's Billal Bennama in the other semifinal.
