The conflict of interest over chief coach Pullela Gopichand gained momentum after Kerala shuttler Aparna Balan moved the Kerala High Court challenging her exclusion from the Asian Games squad. What irked the doubles player was the fact that Gopi Chand’s daughter P. Gayathri was included at Aparna’s expense. A cursory look at the rankings also reveal that Aparna is justified in staking her claim for the Asian Games as she is ranked higher than Gayathri. This is not the first time that the conflict of interest has cropped up against Gopi Chand. A month earlier, Prajukta Sawant had also charged the chief coach of axing her from the World Championships as she had partnered a Malaysian player.
