The 18th edition of the Asian Games is set to kick-off in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. A total of 572 athletes will be representing India at the quadrennial event, to be held from 18 August to 2 September. After the opening ceremony at the GBK main stadium in Jakarta, the event will kick-off from 19 August. And on the first day of the Games, wrestlers, shooter and women’s hockey team will be in action. Let’s talk about wrestling first- India’s double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar will be in action along with Bajrang Punia, Mausam Khatri, Pawan Kumar and Sandeep Tomar. Medal events will start from 6 PM Indian Standard Time. In shooting, Manu Bhaker and Abhishek Verma will be in action in 10 metre air pistol mixed team event while Ravi Kumar and Apurvi Chandela will take part in 10 metre air rifle mixed team event. The finals will be played from 12 and 3.20 pm respectively. In Hockey, India women’s team will lock horns with Indonesia in their first match. In Tennis, India will take on Maldives. In Women’s Basketball 5 into 5, India will be up against Chinese Taipei and in Handball India will take on China. India will also feature in the first rounds of Rowing, Kabaddi and Taekwondo.
