Tennis: Top seed Simona Halep beats Caroline Garcia to reach Rogers Cup semi-finals

The top-seeded Simona Halep beat sixth seed Caroline Garcia 7-5, 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal on Friday .In a replay of the same stage of the tournament last year, the reigning French Open champion won a tough first set and then cruised past world number six Garcia. She will now play in the last four for the fourth consecutive year. Halep had 19 winners to just 12 unforced errors and won 77 per cent of points on her first serve throughout the encounter.
