Sloane Stephens faced a shock defeat against a 201-ranked local girl and ousted in straight sets from the first round of the Adelaide International. Stephens lost 6-2, 6-2 to Australian qualifier Arina Rodionova, who endured two three-set wins in qualifying just to reach the main draw. The local girl was in control from the first game when Stephens lost her serve. Rodionova didn't lose a single-serve and wrapped the match in one hour and 12 minutes on home soil.
