Serbia won their first match to take a 1-0 lead over Uzbekistan in their 2019 Davis Cup qualifier on Friday at the Saxovat Sport Servis Sport Complex in Tashkent. Under the competition's new abbreviated best-of-three set format, world number 42 Dusan Lajovic of Serbia beat Uzbekistan's Sanjar Fayziev 7-6(4), 6-3 in the first singles rubber.The Uzbek world number 593 put up a decent fight, pushing the first set to a tie-break. But the experience of Lajovic was evident and after taking the tie-break, the second set was more routine.
