Defending champion Rafael Nadal eased into the second round of the French Open on Monday, beating German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann 6-2, 6-1, 6-3. The second seed, chasing a record-extending 12th Roland Garros title, fended off four break points in the opening game but was rarely under pressure from there as he got his bid for an 18th Grand Slam off to a winning start.
