Dutch number seven seed Kiki Bertens reached the final of the WTA Madrid Open final, following a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Sloane Stephens of the United States, seeded eight. Bertens broke serve in the opening game of the match and again in the fifth to take the first set in just 35 minutes and had to fight her way back from 2-4 in the second set to secure the win. Now Bertens has the chance to go one better in this tournament than she did last year, when she was beaten in the final by Maria Sharapova.
