While Roger Federer never seriously contemplated retirement while he was away from the tennis tour for more than a year, he did have a hard time dealing with the need for a repeat operation on his troublesome right knee. The 39 year-old 20-time Grand Slam champion is set to make his competitive comeback on Wednesday in the ATP 250 Qatar Open against Dan Evans or Jeremy Chardy. It will be his first match since the 2020 Australian Open. Speaking in Doha on Sunday, Federer said he didn't want to look too far ahead, with a first slam return at Wimbledon his only fixed objective for now. ''The horizon at the moment is not beyond Wimbledon, anything else is too far: the Olympic Games, the US Open,'' he said
