Ninth seed Maria Sakkari of Greece earned her second win in two meetings with Coco Gauff, defeating the American teenager 7-5 6-2 on Saturday to complete the third-round lineup at the Abu Dhabi Open. Sakkari had beaten Gauff in straight sets in their only previous meeting, at the Western & Southern Open in New York last season. She had to come back from a double break down in the first set to repeat the feat on Saturday, eventually clinching an 85-minute victory over the world number 48 from the USA. World number 22 Sakkari had 18 winners to Gauff's eight in the match, and she also had two fewer unforced errors than the American. The victor broke her opponent six times out of her 13 breakpoints as she earned the right to face fifth-seeded Garbine Muguruza in the last 16.
