World number nine Matteo Berrettini was less than convincing in defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round of the Italian Open on Tuesday. In a match lasting over two hours, the home favourite made a shaky start before coming through 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 against the Georgian. Beaten by Alexander Zverev in the final of the Madrid Open, Berrettini's service game became stronger the longer the game wore.
