Football: 'It's a proud moment' - Rashford after successful campaign to continue free meal scheme

Marcus Rashford said he is grateful that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has committed to continue the free school meal voucher scheme over the summer. The scheme was introduced in March after the coronavirus crisis forced schools to close but the Government had said it would not carry on through the summer holidays. Rashford asked MPs to reverse this decision with the Manchester United and England forward reflecting on his own childhood experience of relying on free school lunches and food banks. After mounting pressure at the beginning of the week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Tuesday that the scheme would continue. Rashford said it was "a proud moment" for him and he was "shocked" when he heard the news.
