Wrestling in the country is set to get a major overhaul with a central contract system to be introduced for wrestlers by the Wrestling Federation Of India. On the lines similar to cricket- gradation of grapplers will be done based on their performances at various international events. The various categories for contracts will include junior, sub-junior, U-23 and the elite category. The graduation will be done in five categories for seniors and four for the junior players. It will take into account medals won at the Olympics, World championships; Asian Games, CWG and Youth Olympics, among other major events and the contracts will be reviewed every year. The main aim of introducing these contracts is that the wrestling federation wants to tap talent from everywhere and they don’t want wrestlers to drop out from the sport due to monetary problems.
