Tennis: Unseeded Belinda Bencic beats Petra Kvitova in three sets for WTA Dubai title

Belinda Bencic won the third WTA title of her career and first since 2015 on Sunday, following a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Petra Kvitova in the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. The unseeded Swiss player was beaten in straight sets by Kvitova only last month as the Czech world number four made her way to the Australian Open final, but it was a different story here, despite the momentum seeming to have swung Kvitova's way when she levelled at one-set all. However, Bencic had already beaten world number two Simona Halep this week and put out two-time defending champion Elina Svitolina in the semis. She broke the Kvitova serve in the third game of the decider, broke again to lead 5-2, and Bencic closed out the win on her second match point after an hour and 45 minutes on court.
