Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Matthew Ebden in three sets to reach the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships. The number five seed from Greece broke in the fifth game to take the opening set 6-4. A single break proved the difference in game six of the second but this time it was in Ebden's favour and the Australian won the set 6-3 to set up a decider. After a break apiece early in the third, Tsitsipas enjoyed some fortune with a net cord winner on his way to breaking Ebden again. Tsitsipas completed a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win in an hour and 43 minutes and will next face Belarusian qualifier Egor Gerasimov.
