Tennis News : Top seed Barty beats Teichmann for fifth title of 2021 at Cincinnati Masters

Ashleigh Barty celebrated her fifth singles title of the year - and 13th of her career - at the Cincinnati Masters in Ohio on Sunday. The world number one dispatched the unseeded Jil Teichmann 6-3, 6-1 to put herself in a strong position ahead of the upcoming US Open. Teichmann had been in the best form of her life to reach the final but was outclassed by Barty, who faltered only when serving at 5-0 for the title. But an immediate break back saw Barty claim the prestigious title - without dropping a set all week - for the first time in her career. The last Australian to win the tournament was Barty's heroine Evonne Goolagong Cawley in 1973. Barty: 'I've got the game for US Open' as she reflects on 'incredible week' Ashleigh Barty reflected on an "incredible week" as she lifted her fifth trophy of the year at the WTA Cincinnati Masters on Sunday. The world number one will be full of confidence heading into the US Open and admitted "I've got the game to play well there", as she looks to add the title to her Roland Garros and Wimbledon crowns. Barty beat wild card and surprise finalist Jil Teichmann 6-3, 6-1 in the Cincinnati final. After a career-best week, the Swiss world number 76 said she would be going into the US Open "definitely with more confidence".
