Tennis News : I'm worried and frustrated- Kenin admits struggles this season

Sofia Kenin is tired. Not with tennis, not even with the setbacks that have marred her 2021 season. Instead, Kenin is tired of hiding how difficult things have been over these last months. The American was riding high as she entered this year after claiming her first major title, the 2020 Australian Open, and reaching the final in Roland Garros eight months later. But form and health had other ideas. In January, Kenin was knocked out in the second round as she tried to defend her Australian Open title and early round exits have marred the rest of her season. Then, just as she hoped she could get a solid training block in to rebound at her home grand slam, injury struck. Kenin will miss the entire North American swing and will have to settle with a handful of practice sessions as she prepares for the US Open. "Behind closed doors it's a little bit different," Kenin said during a video interview from her Miami home. "I'm crying and stuff because I'm worried and frustrated." The time off the court has been difficult, but Kenin has been finding her way through it. The 24-year-old has shuffled between building up her hunger to play again and signing new sponsorship deals such as her latest endeavour with SmileDirectClub, "I love tennis," Kenin said. "I'm really good at it and I just want to go out and finally start having some results, finally start being happy on court instead of being this zombie on court losing."
