Estonia's Anett Kontaveit set up a semi-final showdown with top seed Naomi Osaka at the Stuttgart Open, after battling back from a set and a break down to beat former world number one Victoria Azarenka. Azarenka, currently ranked 61 and playing in the tournament as a wild card, put out defending champion Karolina Pliskova in the previous round and looked set to notch up another notable victory after taking the opening set 7-5 and leading in the second. However, Kontaveit broke back as Azarenka served for the match at 5-4 and a run of four straight games brought her level.Kontaveit won the first three games of the decider too, but by now Azarenka was suffering with a leg injury and with the scoreboard reading 5-7, 7-5, 3-0, she retired.
