Rising star Cristian Garin of Chile knocked out ninth seed Denis Shapovalov in the second round of the Barcelona Open. Garin won 7-5, 6-2 to add to his burgeoning reputation on the ATP Tour. The 22-year-old won the Houston Open two weeks ago to help his rise to 48 in the world - exactly 12 months ago, he was ranked 220. Canadian Shapovalov has himself become one of the game's hottest properties but was no match for Garin after a relatively tight first set. Garin now faces lucky loser Roberto Carballes Baena from Spain and will fancy his chances of making further progress this week.
