Motorsport: Ali, Serena and Mandela are my idols - Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton spoke about the need to have a diverse range of role models to help society to improve. Hamilton: "There are so many people that I take inspiration from. There's a lot of athletes out there. Muhammad Ali was my favourite athlete of all time. The charisma and style and technique that he used, I'm just in awe of what he did and what he stood for. But there are many. Serena [Williams] is one of my favourites also, Nelson Mandela. I think as I've gotten older I understand why those particular individuals were so iconic and inspirational for me. Not only because they were so great, but they were the same colour as me. I could see that they've done something great so I can. Representation is such an important thing. Some people are able to dream big without seeing that someone else has done it up ahead. But more often than not, it's cool to see that someone else has been able to do it so it means you can do it because a lot of times when you're young, people tell you there are things you just can't do. And parents who say, 'Don't do that because no one in our family have ever done it before, no one of our colour or origin has done it before. Do this specific thing'. So those are the reasons I like those people."
