Chennai beat Kolkata by 27 runs in Dubai to win the IPL 2021 title. MS Dhoni led Chennai won their fourth IPL title. Two time champions Kolkata won the toss and asked Chennai to bat first and their openers gave their team a solid start putting 61 runs for the opening wicket. Faf du Plessis was the top performer scoring 86 runs off 59 balls and Moeen Ali scored an unbeaten 37 as Chennai scored 192 for 3 in 20 overs. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers for Kolkata picking up two wickets for 26 in their 4 overs. Chasing a mammoth 193-run target Kolkata got off to a flying start with openers Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer putting up 91 for the opening wicket. Both the openers scored half-centuries but after the fall of first wicket Kolkata team never looked like chasing the target as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Captain Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik and rest of the batters once again failed to deliver. Shardul Thaur was the pick of the bowlers for Chennai picking up three wickets to restrict Kolkata to 165/9 in 20 overs. Faf du Plessis was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant performance with the bat to help Chennai clinch the 4th IPL crown under the inspired leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
