Football News : Man City’s Erling Haaland breaks Premier League record

Erling Braut Haaland of Manchester City has surpassed the previous Premier League mark most goals scored in a player's first five games of a season. In the first 40 minutes of Wednesday night's match between Man City and newly promoted Nottingham Forest,

Haaland scored twice in a row to give the champions a dominating advantage. The 22-year-old has now scored nine goals in his first five Premier League appearances, breaking the previous mark of eight goals shared by Sergio Aguero of Man City and Micky Quinn of Coventry City.

Haaland also scored three goals against Crystal Palace last time out to earn his first hat-trick in English football. He also scored once against Newcastle United, twice against West Ham United, and once against West Ham United in opening weekend.

The striker has now won the matchball home in two of his first five games in the competition, setting another record in the process. This is down to his back-to-back hat-tricks.

Demba Ba previously held the record for the fewest games to score two Premier League hat-tricks, scoring two trebles in his first 21 matches in the English top flight. After a productive stint at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 86 goals in just 89 appearances across all competitions, the Norwegian international joined Man City this summer.

Before a hectic period for the club, there had been rumours that Pep Guardiola could rest Haaland for the game on Wednesday. However, he was named to the starting lineup and once again answered with a second hat-trick in as many games.

Prior to this game, Haaland's goals had aided Manchester City in starting their most recent title defence with 10 points out of a possible 12.

The 22-year-old also has two hat-tricks in his first five Premier League games, breaking Demba Ba's previous record of 21 games with two hat-tricks. With nine goals in August, he has already outscored Harry Kane in that month in terms of Premier League goals scored.

After the break, the goals were distributed among the players, and five minutes into the second half, Joao Cancelo made it 4-0 with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.

Alvarez then added two goals in the final 22 minutes to seal the victory and give Pep Guardiola's team 13 points out of a possible 15.

While this was happening, Nottingham Forest lost for the third time this year and now have four points after five games.
