Liverpool are reportedly willing to smash the world transfer record in order to lure PSG forward Kylian Mbappe to Anfield.
Along with Real Madrid, the Reds were briefly regarded one of the leading contenders to sign Mbappe on a free transfer from the Parc des Princes last year.
The 24-year-old eventually turned down both offers to continue at the Ligue 1 winners for another two years, with an option to extend until the summer of 2025.
However, Mbappe has already notified PSG that he has no plans to activate the deal, which means that he could leave on a free transfer at the end of next season.
The former Monaco superstar has stated that he wishes to remain in Paris before making a decision on his future next year, but PSG are unwilling to take the risk of losing Mbappe for nothing.
As a result, Les Parisiens are keen to transfer Mbappe this summer if he continues to refuse to sign a new contract, with Real Madrid still considered his most likely destination.
However, in an interview with the Spanish publication Marca, FIFA agent Marco Kirdemir revealed that Liverpool are willing to spend up to $300 million (£237.1 million) on Mbappe.
In such a transaction, Mbappe would become the most expensive player in history, exceeding the €222 million (£191.8 million) sum paid by PSG to recruit Neymar from Barcelona in 2017.
"Liverpool is competing with Real Madrid and wants to pay a fortune for Mbappe, that fortune he speaks of would be around 300 million,"
Kirdermir told the publication.
PSG have been left "very angry" by Mbappe's unwillingness to extend his contract, according to the agency, but Real Madrid may wait until 2024 before making a bid, despite Karim Benzema's surprise departure.
Los Blancos have already spent heavily on Jude Bellingham this summer and have strengthened their offensive ranks with the loan addition of Joselu from Espanyol with a purchase option.
Manchester United has been mentioned as an alternative destination for Mbappe if Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani buys the club from the Glazer family, but no deal has been reached.
Mbappe finished the 2022-23 season with 41 goals and 10 assists in 43 matches, surpassing Edinson Cavani as PSG's all-time leading scorer in March's 4-2 Ligue 1 triumph against Nantes.
The 24-year-old has 212 goals and 98 assists in 260 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool's attacking ranks have been weakened by the free transfer of Roberto Firmino.
Moves for RB Leipzig's Dominik Szoboszlai and Rennes' Jeremy Doku have been proposed, and the Reds are rumoured to have entered a bidding war for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Following the £35 million purchase of Alexis MacAllister from Brighton & Hove Albion, Jurgen Klopp is still looking to add one or two more midfielders.
