If Paris Saint-Germain loses to Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16, Kylian Mbappe allegedly has the option of submitting a transfer request.
The Ligue 1 powerhouses will take on six-time champion Bayern Munich over the course of two games in an effort to maintain their chances of winning their first Champions League championship.
Due to a thigh injury, PSG will be without Mbappe for the first leg at Parc des Princes on Tuesday, but the 23-year-old could be ready for the rematch on March 8 at the Allianz Arena.
Following PSG's victory over Montpelier on February 1, manager Christophe Galtier spoke to Canal+.
"He took a knock to the back of the knee or the back of the thigh, so we'll see. I'm not too worried. It's a bruise or a contusion, we don't know yet."
"With the run of matches we don't want to take risks with a very busy fixture list, but it doesn't appear that serious."
Since joining PSG in 2017, Mbappe has cemented his position as one of the top players in the world of football, tallying 196 goals and 94 assists in 243 appearances across all competitions.
The 24-year-old has 25 goals in 26 appearances so far this season, including seven in six Champions League games, which ties him with Mohamed Salah of Liverpool for the most in the competition.
Mbappe has a contract with the Parc des Princes that runs through June 2024, with an additional 12-month extension option.
However, rumours about the Frenchman's future professional transfer persist amid credible connections to Real Madrid, a team that the Frenchman is known to have strong links alongside Premier League teams Liverpool and Manchester United.
Mbappe might ask to leave PSG, according to Marca, if they don't defeat Bayern and go to the quarterfinals of the Champions League this year.
According to the source, if the forward loses the Champions League again, he may be forced to request for a transfer out of the club during the summer transfer window.
Less than six months after agreeing to new terms, PSG executives have been fighting tooth and nail to persuade Mbappe to sign another contract extension, but they think the Frenchman sees his future elsewhere.
Mbappe and PSG have lost three times in the last 16 of the Champions League over the past five seasons, including a 3-2 aggregate loss to eventual champion Real Madrid last year.
The Parisian giants competed in their first-ever final in 2020 but lost to Bayern Munich. In the 2021 semi-finals, they fell to Manchester City 4-1 on aggregate.
Mbappe, who has already won four Ligue 1 championships, wants to lift the Champions League trophy, and he reportedly thinks that leaving Paris Saint-Germain may be necessary to improve his prospects.
PSG paid about £163 million to get Mbappe from Monaco, and if they decide to sell the forward, they will probably ask for a price around that amount.
