India kicked off their AFC Asian Cup 2019 campaign in style as they beat Thailand 4-1 in their opening group game. This was India’s first win in the competition since 1964. It was captain Sunil Chhetri who gave India the lead from the penalty spot in the 27th minute. Thailand though hit back within minutes to level the scores. It was Thai team who dominated the first half but it was a completely different story in the 2nd half as India played an attacking brand of football. Chhetri got on the scoresheet one again to give India a 2-1 lead. Midfielder Anirudh Thapa and second-half substitute Jeje Lalpekhlua then struck in the 68th and 80th minutes to completely outclass Thailand at the Al Nahyan Stadium.
