Despite the team's recent struggles, Chelsea are not planning to fire head coach Graham Potter, according to reports. After taking over for Thomas Tuchel in September, the 47-year-old had a successful debut at Stamford Bridge.
He has won six and drawn three of his first nine matches across all competitions. Potter has now experienced a horrendous run, winning just once in 10 games since the beginning of the year.
Thus, he has registered only three victories, four draws, and nine losses in his previous 16 games with the Blues. Recently, the Blues lost against the team who is at the bottom of the PL table.
The Stamford Bridge faithful booed loudly in response to Chelsea's most recent loss to the Saints. The West Londoners are now sitting in 10th position in the Premier League table, 11 points behind fourth-place Tottenham.
Moreover, they are eliminated from both domestic cup competitions and are on the verge of missing out on Champions League spot.
Numerous changes have been made at the club since the arrival of co-owner Todd Boehly, who spent more than £300 million on eight new players in January, including midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who set a record for British player purchases. Prior to Potter's arrival, a similar amount was spent on seven players over the summer.
Although many Chelsea supporters are dissatisfied, The Mirror believes that the club's hierarchy will continue to back the Englishman through this challenging time. The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager has yet to see his freshly created group gel.
The latest defeat against Southampton, according to the article, did not sway the board's decision about Potter's future, and they still want to give him more time to turn around the club's fortunes.
Potter stated the following to reporters following the game last Saturday, as reported by Sky Sports: "Following a 1-0 loss at home, any criticism you get is understandable. When it came to integrating young players into the Premier League, we had many difficulties and a difficult period.
"When you don't get results, it can be tough. That's how it is. Some people will think I'm the problem. I don't think they're right but that doesn't mean they can't articulate their views."
"We took a step back in terms of our performance in the first half. The response in the second half was good but not good enough."
Potter, whose contract at Stamford Bridge runs through the summer of 2027, is now preparing his Chelsea team for a Sunday Premier League derby away match against Tottenham Hotspur.
