Football News: Chelsea open to selling Edouard Mendy this summer

Chelsea are apparently willing to allow goalkeeper Edouard Mendy depart this summer in order to find a new number one. When Mendy arrived from Rennes in the summer of 2020, he quickly replaced Kepa to become the primary Blues' goalkeeper.

Chelsea won the Champions League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup with the Senegal international. However, the London club's first-choice shot-stopper has been rarely seen throughout the 2022-23 season.

A fractured finger has limited the 31-year-old to just 11 games across all competitions. This season, the Montivilliers born goalkeeper has kept just one clean sheet in nine Premier League appearances.

Even before undergoing surgery in January, Mendy's status was jeopardised by Kepa. The Spaniard demoted him to the bench for four Premier League games and the same amount of Champions League games. Now, Kepa has been in goal for Chelsea's previous 16 matches in all competitions, although

Meanwhile, Mendy is back in training and hoping to return before the conclusion of the season. While The Mirror claims that Mendy will be on the transfer list this summer Moreover, Chelsea have told him that he is free to join another club.

The Senegal international is under contract at Stamford Bridge for another two years, but the Blues are reportedly unable to lock him down to a new long-term contract due to a wage dispute.

Mendy has 49 clean sheets in 104 appearances for Chelsea in the last two and a half years, and the Blues have been connected with a number of potential replacements.

Jordan Pickford of Everton and Diogo Costa of Porto have both been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge, despite having recently signed new contracts with their respective teams.

Brentford and Spain shot-stopper David Raya has also been suggested as a possible target, and the 27-year-old recently hinted that he may be willing to leave the Bees in the summer after turning down two contract extension offers.

"I turned down two contracts, one last year and one this January. They weren't the offers we were looking for. I can only say that,"

Raya told The Athletic.

" I have a contract here, so I'm willing to finish that, but you never know what's going to happen in the summer. Maybe the club wants to sell, maybe not. Maybe I want to stay. I want to focus on football and see what happens."

Chelsea drew 2-2 with Everton on Saturday to stay in 10th place in the Premier League table, and their first game following the international break will be against Aston Villa on April 1.
