Football News: Chelsea, Manchester United lead Victor Osimhen race?

Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be leading the race to capture Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen this summer.

This season, Osimhen has been a star performer for Luciano Spalletti's side, scoring 26 goals and giving five assists in 33 competitive games.

With 21 of those goals coming in the league, Osimhen leads the Serie A scoring charts for the 2022-23 season, and his scores have propelled Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

Despite having two years left on his contract with Napoli, the Nigeria international is receiving interest from all across Europe.

According to Florian Plettenburg, Chelsea and Manchester United have surged ahead of their rivals in the hunt to recruit Osimhen.

According to the source, the Paris Saint-Germain leadership is interested in signing Osimhen, but they appear to be following the two Premier League clubs.

Bayern Munich are still hunting for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona in the summer, and Osimhen was thought to be on their radar.

The Bavarians, on the other hand, have been scared off by Napoli's financial demands and have opted to withdraw their interest.

The Italian club is seeking a cost of over €150 million (£132 million), while Bayern is unwilling to pay more than €100 million (£88 million).

Chelsea are expecting to offload players this summer in order to meet financial fair play standards after spending over £600 million in the previous two transfer windows, but they are still expected to buy a striker.

Chelsea are the Premier League's fifth-lowest scorers this season, and they appear to regard Osimhen as a potential solution to their problems in the final third.

Man United are also hoping to add to their attacking options this summer, with Burnley loanee Wout Weghorst poised to return to his parent club at the conclusion of the season.

Despite their interest in Osimhen, the Red Devils have yet to decide whether to pursue him or Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal KoloMuani.

The France international's contract with Frankfurt expires in five years, but he is anticipated to draw offers this summer after scoring 21 goals in 41 games this season.

Meanwhile, Osimhen will play in Napoli's away match against Udinese on Thursday, as the club looks to clinch the Serie A title.
