The first eight penalties were all scored before Daniel Maldini, son of AC Milan legend Paolo, saw his effort saved by David de Gea, allowing Daniel James to seal the win. The result confirms Benfica as winners of the pre-season competition, with United finishing second ahead of Arsenal in third. Paul Pogba, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, was absent from the match.
