Football: It was a dream for me - Ozil on new life at Fenerbahce

At his official presentation as a Fenerbahce player, Mesut Ozil said on Wednesday he hoped to develop a "wonderful connection" with the Turkish club. Ozil signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Fenerbahce after he completed his free transfer move from English Premier League side Arsenal during the January transfer window, where he had not played for Mikel Arteta's first-team since March 2020. But, even if Ozil experiences a revival in his playing career at Fenerbahce, he reiterated his stance that he "will never play again" for Germany. The 32-year-old earned over 90 caps for 'Die Mannschaft' and played a key role in their 2014 World Cup success, but four years later after Germany exited the group stage in Russia 2018, he subsequently announced his retirement from international football and cited racism as the main reason behind his decision. Ozil was heavily criticised for meeting with Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan before the World Cup in Russia, but he strongly denied any wrongdoing.
