Gustavo Bou smashed a half-volley past Clement Diop for the win, as a dominant New England Revolution side overcame some wastefulness in the final third to defeat the Montreal Impact 1-0 in both teams' Group C opener of the MLS is Back Tournament on Thursday night. Bou took Carles Gil's pass and cut back to elude Rod Fanni just inside the penalty area, then unleashed a vicious strike from just inside the box that left Diop little chance. Although outplayed for most of the game, Thierry Henry's Montreal side almost scored a late equaliser in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time. However, Ballou Tabla's long-range effort was denied by an exceptional save from goalkeeper Matt Turner. The full-time whistle blew shortly after the ensuing corner kick, ensuring 3 points for the Revs and revenge for a 2-1 season-opening defeat back in Montreal on 29th February. Before kickoff, players from both sides took a knee to honour the memory of George Floyd and support the Black Lives Matter movement. Henry raised his fist as he joined the players from his coach's box and took a knee for the first 8 minutes and 46 seconds of the game.
