Football: Bruce reveals recent death threats, calls for more to be done to tackle online abuse

Steve Bruce admits he has been trolled on social media, receiving death threats including wishes that he contract Covid-19. The Newcastle United boss made the revelation after speaking about the issue with his family and has joined the call for social media companies to do more to stamp out online abuse. He talked with his family about referee Mike Dean, who has been granted leave from any matches this weekend after he and his family were subjected to abuse and death threats. Dean has received criticism for sending off Southampton defender Jan Bednarek and West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek in recent matches. He has reported the abuse to police.
