Cricket News : Wasim Jaffer reappointed as batting coach of Punjab Kings

Prior to the upcoming IPL, Punjab Kings announced additional personnel changes, including the return of Wasim Jaffer as their batting coach and the hiring of Charl Langeveldt as their bowling coach. Brad Haddin has also been hired by them to serve as an assistant coach.

After Anil Kumble's contract was not renewed, they appointed Trevor Bayliss as head coach in September. Shikhar Dhawan took over as IPL 2023 captain earlier this month, replacing Mayank Agarwal, who had also recently been let go from the team. Under Kumble, the Kings have missed the playoffs three times in a row.

Jaffer, who was nominated to the position by Kumble prior to the 2020 season, resigned prior to the mega auction the previous year. He took up a position with the Bangladesh U-19 squad after being named main coach of the Odisha Ranji team in July 2021.

Damien Wright took up Langeveldt's position as Punjab's bowling coach in 2021 after Langeveldt served in that capacity during IPL 2020. He presently serves as the men's South Africa bowling team's coach.

Haddin, a former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman, will reunite with Bayliss, with whom he previously shared a Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the same capacity.

The Kings have made changes after yet another season in which they were unable to reach the final four, releasing nine players on November 15 at the conclusion of the retention deadline day.

Aside from Agarwal and Odean Smith, none of their other releases made a significant contribution to their first XI during the previous season, and Kings enter the IPL 2023 auction with the second-highest purse of INR 32.2 crore. The auction is scheduled for December 23.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will commence from 25th of March 2023 and will end on 28th May. Post which all the players will be looking forward to the greatest event in the world of Cricket i.e. The ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023.
