Cricket News : Shami & Kohli overpowers the Australians as India registers an unlikely win

Mohammed Shami didn't play until the last over of the warm-up match between the Australians and the Indians, but what a comeback in the T20 uniform for India! Ashton Agar ran himself out, Virat Kohli assisted with a wonderful one-handed catch backtracking at long-on, Shami produced a yorker-yorker off the next two balls, and the team finished with 3 for 4. Game over. In Brisbane, the Indians had orchestrated a comeback victory by six runs.

When the Australians were chasing 187 and needed 11 runs to win off of six deliveries, Rohit Sharma called on Shami, who had been out with an injury since mid-July. Seven off four was the new aim, but that's when the drama really began.

The Australians had 16 to get off of two overs when they were 171 for 4. But Tim David and Aaron Finch both mishandled successful balls after scoring a respectable half-century. Harshal Patel bowled Finch for 76 runs off 54 balls with a slower yorker from outside the crease. Then, Kohli showed his skill when he caught David short with a pick-up-and-throw while running from midwicket. Then there was just Shami.

When the Indians were given the opportunity to bat earlier, they got off to a fast start, with KL Rahul in particular going the aggressive path right away. With Rohit on 1 off of 5 and Rahul on 49 off of 25, India quickly reached 56 for no loss by the end of the fifth over. Before Rohit joined the party and struck Glenn Maxwell for a six and a four, he quickly reached fifty off 27 balls.

Through Maxwell and Agar, who dismissed the openers in back-to-back overs, the Australians fought back. The scoreboard was then maintained by Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. The two ran brilliantly, collecting boundaries at every opportunity with big square bounds in use.

Like usual, Suryakumar made use of the angles to play inside-out drives over the covers while also spotting holes around the square-leg area. Although Kohli hit a six straight down the ground, his stroke play wasn't always fluid, and many of his mistimed smashes ended up dangerously close to fielders. He eventually collapsed under a bouncer from Mitchell Starc, top-edging to deep fine-leg. While Dinesh Karthik hit a 20-run hole shot to deep midwicket, Hardik Pandya arrived and departed.

But Suryakumar persisted, taking 32 balls to achieve his fifty. While his dismissal was a soft one (a catch back to Kane Richardson off the leading edge while attempting a flick off a full ball), he would have been satisfied with the knock. His innings had six fours and a six. India reached 186 thanks to a first-ball six over point from R Ashwin. With 4 for 30, Richardson led the Australian bowling attack, and Starc was in top form.

Finch and Mitchell Marsh were among the early boundaries in the Australians' successful chase. Marsh was the first to discover the fence, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik enduring the brunt of his discovery. Finch then attacked Ashwin and Harshal as Australia scored 64 runs while on the power play.

They appeared, for the most part, to be on course. till they split apart at the end. Thus, giving India an unlikely win.
