It was a fruitful day for India and a memorable one for debutant Mayank Agarwal as his 76 run knock helped India score 215 runs with the loss of 2 wickets at stumps on day one of the boxing day Test match in Melbourne. Mayank rose to the challenge in front of over 70,000 fans after India won an important toss and opted to bat on a pitch that is expected to deteriorate as the match progresses. He stroked 76 and was looking impregnable before Cummins had him caught behind by Tim Paine. After his dismissal Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli established a 92-run partnership stands to keep the hosts at bay. Pujara was not out for 68 and Kohli unbeaten on 47, eyeing his 20th Test half-century, at the end of the opening day.Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for Australia taking both the wickets.
