Cricket News: Life-size statue of Sachin Tendulkar to be installed at Wankhede Stadium

Sachin Tendulkar has made unparalleled contributions to Mumbai cricket. It appears that the Master Blaster will soon be honoured for those accomplishments in the grandest manner imaginable.

A life-size monument of the renowned batter is scheduled to be installed at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. According to the Indian Express, the statue will be unveiled on two possible occasions.

Either it will be on Sachin's approaching 50th birthday (April 30) or later in the year during the 50-over World Cup. As the greatest event of Cricket is set to take place in India this year, chances are that the statue might unveil during that time.

Sachin played his final international match at the iconic venue in 2013 against the West Indies.

According to the Indian Express, as reported by Amol Kale, Mumbai Cricket Association has granted permission for the statue. Moreover, Sachin has also agreed on it and it will be the first statue ever constructed at such an illustrious location.

"It will be the first statue in Wankhede Stadium, we will decide where it will be placed,"

MCA president Kale was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

"He (Sachin) is a Bharat Ratna and everyone knows what he has done for cricket. As he turns 50, it will be a small token of appreciation from the MCA. I spoke to him three weeks ago and his consent was received,"

Kale said.

MCA is renowned for giving honourable obituaries to its athletes who were able to make a difference in the sport and establish a cult following for themselves. An existing stand at the same location is named after the World Cup champion from 2011. Moreover, it contains a booth dedicated for Dilip Vengasarkar and a business box named for Sunil Gavaskar, the Little Master.

The Indian legend's career had a time span of almost 2 decades before it came to a halt at the Wankhede.
