Cricket News: Irfan Pathan gives an epic reply to Yuvraj Singh for “Is ODI cricket dying”

Thiruvananthapuram hosted the third one-day international between India and Sri Lanka, however there weren't many spectators there. 'Yuvraj Singh, a former Indian cricketer, expressed his concern about the stadium being only about half full for the match between India and Sri Lanka.

The former Indian hitter also congratulated Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli for their magnificent display in the 3rd ODI.

The Men in Blues' duo scored individual centuries. Virat scored an unbeaten 166 off just 110 balls while Gill scored 116 off 97.

"Well played @ShubmanGill hopefully goes on to make a hundred @imVkohli batting at the other end looking Solid! But concern for me half empty stadium ? Is one day cricket dying? #IndiavsSrilanka," Yuvraj tweeted.

To this, Irfan Pathan, a former cricketer for India and Yuvraj Singh's teammate, quickly responded to Yuvraj's tweet with an intriguing comment.

"Bhai pads pehan lo. Aajegijantaaa (brother, pad up... spectators will come to stadium)," Irfan said.

India took an unstoppable lead by winning the first two games of the lopsided series, making the third ODI irrelevant. Due to the unenthusiastic reception from the locals, the stadium, which had a full house for its only other ODI-a rain-affected encounter between India and West Indies in 2018-took on a nearly deserted appearance. The final ODI was only watched by roughly 20,000 spectators in the 38,000-seat venue.

The shorter format of the game could be one of the reasons why many don't prefer to watch a 7-hour game. Thus, stadiums having empty seats can be a concern in the near future. However, the way cricket is treated in India, one can say fans are going nowhere.

With the World Cup on the verge which will also take place in India, Rahul Dravid the Indian head coach will gear up his preparation for the tournament.

Team India have successfully completed a 3-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka with a 317-run victory over the visitors, giving themsevles a solid start to their ODI campaign.

India will now be looking forward to make their upcoming ODI fixtures count for squad selection for the upcoming World Cup.
