IPL 2021 could well be played with 10 teams as Gautam Adani owned Adani Group and Sanjeev Goenka owned RPSG group are front runners to own additional Indian Premier League teams. Gautam Adani has publicly shown interest in owning an IPL team in the past. Adani group owns a team in Pro-Kabaddi League Gujarat Fortunegiants. On the other hand, Sanjeev Goenka had earlier owned a team known as Rising Pune Supergiant that played IPL in 2016 and 2017 when Chennai and Rajasthan were handed two year from IPL due to the spot-fixing controversy. IPL 2011 had ten teams with teams like Sahara Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers. Sanjeev Goenka also owns a team in ISL called Atletico de Kolkata. The IPL currently has 8 franchises. The Motera Stadium near Ahmedabad is getting a makeover with an increased capacity and is likely to be a base for an IPL team.
