Cricket News : India vs England Manchester Test cancelled

India versus England fifth and final test match scheduled to begin today at the Old Trafford in Manchester has been cancelled. There was uncertainty regarding the fifth and final Test match after the Assistant Physio of Team India's support staff tested positive for Covid a day before the match. But all Indian players had returned negative RT-PCR results and it was expected that the match will be held as per the schedule but it wasn't to be. The ECB informed that India were "unable to field a team" due to Covid cases in the visiting team's camp.Therefore, the test match is cancelled as of now and according to sources in BCCI it is believed that it will take place at a later date. Earlier the ECB asked India to forfeit the match which meant that the series would have ended in a 2-2 draw which Virat Kohli and company leading 2-1 right now. India suffered a setback during the fourth Test when three members of their support staff including head coach Ravi Shastri had tested positive for Covid. Apart from Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar had contracted the virus. With India's packed schedule and looking at the current situation there was perhaps no other way but to cancel the test match. But ECB and Joe Root will not take it lying down and there is going to be more drama on the cards.
