Brisbane 2032 : IOC and Australia officials on Brisbane selection

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) president said Wednesday the newly announced 2032 Summer Olympic Games host city Brisbane will be a "very sustainable" project with "great legacy". The Games will go back to Australia 32 years after the popular 2000 Sydney Olympics. Melbourne hosted in 1956. IOC chief Thomas Bach praised the celebrations of the "sports-loving" nation as what the Olympics were about. Australian Sports Minister Richard Colbeck said the delayed 2020 Tokyo Games, which begin on Friday, were important for the world to give people "something to celebrate". "And that's exactly the same feeling and the anticipation for Brisbane 2032," he added. Brisbane follows 2028 host Los Angeles in getting 11 years to prepare for hosting the Games. Paris will host in 2024. Brisbane was the inevitable winner of a one-city race steered by the International Olympic Committee to avoid rival bids.
