There is no better feeling than being a medal winner. The Indian boxing team returned home with its best-ever haul in the recently concluded Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok. The Indian pugilists—both, men and women—did not just finish on the podium, they made a reputation as giant killers. They returned with a record haul of 13 medals which is also India’s best performance at the Asian Boxing championship. Amit Panghal and Pooja gave India two gold medals while India also won four silver and seven bronze medals too. Among these boxers, one who made history was Shiva Thapa. Shiva secured an unprecedented fourth successive medal at the event. The 25-year-old Thapa defeated Thailand’s Rujakran Juntrong in a one-sided lightweight contest. He prevailed 5-0 against the Thai boxer before bowing down to Kazakhstan’s Zakir Safiullin, a silver-medallist from the 2015 edition to settle for bronze.
