The Indian shuttlers P V Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Sameer Verma continued their impressive runs, progressing to the women’s and men’s singles quarterfinals respectively of the Asia Badminton Championship today. It was Sameer Verma who started the proceedings on a positive note after Utkarsh ARORA and Karishama Wadkar bowed out of the mixed doubles losing to the Indonesian pair of Hafiz FAIZAL and Gloria. Sameer brushed aside Hong Kong’s Long Angus 21-12, 21-19. He will next face second-seeded Shi Yuqi of China. After Sameer, Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu was in action. Sindhu, seeded fourth, took just 33 minutes to get the better of Indonesia’s Choirunnisa 21-15, 21-19 in a one-sided women’s singles match. The world number six will next play the unseeded Cai Yanyan of China in the quarterfinals. Later in the day Saina Nehwal overcame South Korean Kim Ga Eun 21-13,21-13 to seal quarterfinal berth.
