Badminton News : Sudirman Cup, India lose 1-4 to Thailand in Group A

India lose 1-4 to Thailand in group A match of the Sudirman Cup 2021 in Finland. Men’s doubles pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila beat Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren 21-18 21-17 to give India an early 1-0 lead. In women’s singles, Malvika Bansod lost to Pornpawee Chochuwong also in straight games. The Indian shuttler was no match to her seasoned opponent losing the match 11-21 14-21. In men's singles Kidambi Srikanth lost the men’s singles tie 9-21, 19-21 to Kunlavut Vitidsarn, handing 2-1 lead to Thailand. The experienced duo Aswini Ponnappa and N Sikhi Reddy also failed to win as they squandered their 3-point lead in the first game of the women's doubles match. In the second game they were no match to their Thai opponents and lost poorly. Thailand trounced the Indian pair of Ponnappa and Sikhri 23-21, 21-8 to give their team an unassailable 1-3 lead. In mixed doubles, B Sai Praneeth and Tanisha Crasto lost to Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai in another straight games loss of the day. India will now face 11 time champions China in the next match who are fielding a formidable side with reigning Olympic champion Chen Yufei playing women's singles.
