The leading lady of badminton in India PV Sindhu failed to leave a mark as she bowed down to Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea in the opening game at Badminton's greatest show, the All England Championships 2019 which returned to Arena Birmingham today. The prestigious title has been eluding India for the past 18 years now. Sindhu was up against former world number 2 Sung Ji Hyun who had also got the better of the Indian superstar thrice in 2018. Sindhu lost 16-21, 22-20, 18-21 to the World No. 10 now. Earlier HS Prannoy’s also campaign ended on a disappointing note as he lost a closely fought contest 19-21, 19-21 to compatriot Sai Praneeth in the first round. The closely-contested match lasted for 52 minutes where Praneeth held his nerves in the both the games to close the match by a narrow margin. Later in the day Saina Nehwal will square off against Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour in the first round. While Kidambi Srikanth will face France’s Brice Leverdez in the opening round.
