Reports: Edouard Mendy set to leave Chelsea this summer

Chelsea custodian Edouard Mendy is poised to depart the club this summer, according to reports.

The Senegal international, who joined Chelsea from Rennes in 2020, was the club's first-choice custodian throughout his first two seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Mendy struggled during the 2022-23 season, losing his starting spot to Kepa Arrizabalaga after Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea manager.

Mendy also had injury troubles in the early months of 2023, and as a result, he only made 12 competitive appearances entire season.

Chelsea were thought to be looking for a new number one, with links to Inter Milan's Andre Onana and AC Milan's Mike Maignan.

According to a recent source, new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino plans to start the 2023-24 season with Arrizabalaga as his new custodian.

With the Spaniard poised to remain at Stamford Bridge, journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Mendy will be permitted to leave the club this summer.

Mendy joined with a new agent, Fali Ramadani, two months ago, ostensibly with the anticipation of moving.

The 31-year-old, who played 63 Ligue 1 games for Reims and Rennes, could be poised to return to the French top flight.

Monaco have identified Mendy as a possible replacement for Alexander Nubel, who has returned to Bayern Munich following a loan spell, according to RMC Sport.

Nice have also been linked with the Chelsea custodian, with Kasper Schmeichel's future unknown.

Mendy has maintained 49 clean sheets in 105 appearances across all competitions during his three-year stay at Chelsea.

Mendy has 29 caps for Senegal and has assisted the Blues in winning the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.
It will be interesting to see how the Argentine, who will take on the charge from July 1 will cut short his lengthy squad.
