Tokyo Paralympic : Avani Lekhara bags gold, Devendra Jhajhariya, Sundar & Yogesh also win medal

Para shooter Avani Lekhara makes history by winning the elusive Tokyo Paralympic Games gold medal. Competing in her maiden Paralympics, Avani shot 249.6 points in the R2 women’s 10m air rifle SH1 category for a Paralympic record and equal the World Record. The 19 year old became India's first ever female Paralympic medal winner. Avani will be in action again in the R3 Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 event, along with Siddhartha Babu and Deepak, on September 1. She will also take part in the R8 Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 on September 3 as well as the R6 Mixed 50m Air Rifle prone SH1 event, alongside Siddhartha and Deepak, on September 5. India’s legendary Javelin Thrower Devendra went on to win his third Paralympic Medal in Tokyo and won the prestigious Silver medal in the F46 category with a personal best throw of 64.35m. India also went on to win the Bronze medal at the same event, with Rajasthan’s Sundar Singh Gurjar throwing his season-best throw of 64.01m to take the 3rd spot. Yogesh Kathuniya bagged silver in the Men’s Discus Throw F56 event. Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver with a splendid show of 44.38 M. Ranked 3rd in the world Yogesh Kathuniya won Bronze medal in the World Para Athletics Championship in Dubai in the year 2019.
