22-year-old Russian qualifier Liudmila Samsonova upset Madison Keys of the United States in the last eight at the Berlin Open in Germany on Friday in a marathon two-and-a-half hour match that featured two tiebreaks. Keys, who put out top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the previous round, lost the first set but took the second 6-2 and appeared well placed to reach the semi-finals. However, Samsonova forced another breaker in the third and swept through it by seven-point to nil to complete a 7-6(4), 2-6, 7-6(0) victory. The world number 106 will next face number seven seed Victoria Azarenka after she beat Jessica Pegula 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
