Jelena Ostapenko caused an upset in the first round of the Italian Open on Tuesday, by sweeping aside British number 16 seed Johanna Konta in just 71 minutes. Ostapenko, who won the French Open in 2017 but is now ranked 49, broke serve six times and lost her own only twice in a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 victory. The 23-year-old Latvian will face Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic in round two after she beat Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-2.
