Golf: Rose and Varner III tied for the lead after first round of Charles Schwab Challenge

Justin Rose, a winner at Colonial Country Club two years ago, and Harold Varner III hit the ground running as golf returned from a three-month hiatus with the Charles Schwab Challenge on Thursday. Rose and Varner held the clubhouse lead in Fort Worth, Texas having shot a blemish-free round of 63 in the first major tournament since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the sport. They finished the day with a one-shot lead over Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas, Mexico's Abraham Ancer and and fellow Americans Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas.
